MADE BY HAND. CARRIED FOR YEARS.
A note from Mari
I'm Italian by heritage, Australian by choice, and a designer who believes a bag can be more than something you carry. It can be something that carries you, too.
I started Oralua because I was tired of the trade-off. I wanted bags made the way they used to be — slowly, with leather you can smell, stitching you can run your finger along, hardware that feels weighted in the hand. But I also wanted them to fit a real life. Not a museum piece. Not a status symbol. Something you'd actually carry, every day, for years.
So I got to work.
What goes into every piece
Every Oralua bag begins with the leather. We work only with tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group — there are fewer of them than you might think — because how leather is made matters as much as how it looks. Our hides are full-grain cow leather, Saffiano, and soft Togo pebble. Each one chosen for the way it ages, not just the way it photographs on day one.
From there, the work moves to artisans whose families have made bags for generations. Every stitch, every clip, every interior pocket finished by hand, checked by hand, then checked again. The result is a bag with weight. With memory. One that takes a small mark on its first weekend out and feels even more like yours by the second.
Designed for you
I think a lot about who carries our bags.
You probably don't need another handbag. You already have one, maybe several, and they're fine. But you've reached a point where 'fine' isn't enough — where you want fewer things, made better. Where you want a piece you can introduce to your daughter one day and say, 'this is mine.'
Oralua is designed for that. For the boardroom and the school run. For the travel that's planned and the weekend that isn't. For dressing up, dressing down, and all the days that feel like neither.
Our promise to you
Each Oralua piece is designed in Australia, made by hand, and built to outlast the season it was launched in. If anything ever goes wrong with a bag of ours, we want to hear about it — and we'll do everything we can to make it right.
Because a bag carried for five years tells a better story than one bought five times over.
